Stony Brook University Hospital |
Stony Brook University Medical CenterAmbulatory Pavilion (“The Cancer Center”) CHALLENGE: Stony Brook University Hospital is the premier health facility in Suffolk County. In furnishing its new Cancer Center the hospital wanted to set a quality benchmark for combining functionality, durability and aesthetics. What’s more, the new Center had to satisfy “cleanability” standards that are inherent to a hospital environment, and, strove to meet the stringent guidelines of the U.S. Green Building Council’s rating system. Demanding workflow efficiencies for doctors, nurses and administrative staff also had to be met while a major priority was the comfort of people who would use the Center’s waiting room..
SOLUTION: The WorkPlace Group discussed virtually every possibility with hospital officials as well as with the planners and designers of the new Cancer Center and with contractors. Specific workflow was analyzed according to the needs of all entities that would utilize the new facility...from medical professionals to office personnel to patients and visitors. The Workplace Group ensured that the look and feel of all areas would be integrated cohesively to work seamlessly together and be consistently implemented easily throughout the rest of the hospital in the future. Aesthetically pleasing yet durable seating, furniture, shelving, cabinets and storage units were all provided for the new Center, each engineered for optimal cleanability.
RESULT: Stony Brook University Hospital’s new Cancer Center is today a truly beautiful facility and a prototype for staff workflow productivity, visitor and patient comfort, cleanability and environmental friendliness. Hospital administrators are so pleased with the results, The Workplace Group is now working on providing workflow solutions and furnishings for phase 2 of the project which includes renovation of the first 3 floors of the original hospital. |
